Nationwide Blackout As National Grid Collapses Again Despite FG’s Permanent Fix Assurance
A fresh widespread power outage has beckoned on Wednesday following the collapse of the national grid.
This latest failure is coming just months after several similar incidents were reported in October, despite government assurances of a permanent fix.
Incessant collapse of the nation’s grid has further exposed severe issues with the country’s electricity infrastructure.
At 2:00pm on Wednesday, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company announced a “system disturbance” on the national grid after residents started experiencing power outages across its franchise areas.
The company informed the affected people that a system disturbance occurred on the national grid at 1:32 pm on Wednesday causing power outage across its jurisdictions.
While assuring gradual restoration of power supply, it noted that the company is coordinating closely with relevant stakeholders to restore power fully as soon as the grid is stabilised.
A separate post on the official account of Nigeria’s national grid on X (formerly Twitter) revealed that the collapse took place at around 1:32 pm.
The brief post confirmed the disruption and noted, “The major grid setback has occurred and the restoration is to commence.”
This latest incident adds to a troubling pattern of grid collapses in the country.
Earlier in October, the grid went down multiple times, sparking frustration among citizens and businesses.
The Federal Government had pledged to address these recurring failures, yet power supply issues remain unresolved.
Meanwhile, Nigerians have expressed displeasure over the latest grid collapse, saying it has become stock in trade in the country.
They made their frustrations known on the company’s X handle immediately it alerted the public of the reason for the power outage they are confronting.
For an X user, Vivian Umukoro, government has politicized electricity and has made it caricature.
In her post sighted by Investors King, she said, “What a shame of a nation. Every time, it is bad news. We are not longer valued in this country. No promise kept, everything is now a mockery.”
