The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has intensified security measures at the Onne Port Complex in response to the surge in vessel traffic observed in recent times.

Mohammed Bello-Koko, the Managing Director of NPA, affirmed this development during the inauguration of newly acquired security boats.

Situated on the Bonny River Estuary, the Onne Port has emerged as a vital hub for maritime activities, particularly as vessel traffic continues to increase.

Bello-Koko underscored the importance of maintaining robust security protocols to safeguard the port’s operations and ensure smooth maritime activities.

The acquisition of new security boats signifies the NPA’s commitment to enhancing security infrastructure and readiness at Onne Port.

These security patrol boats are poised to bolster the port’s capacity to respond to emergent threats effectively and deter illicit activities within its vicinity.

Bello-Koko emphasized the agency’s dedication to promoting the growth and prosperity of eastern ports, including Onne.

The Eastern Ports, comprising Onne, Rivers, Warri, and Calabar Port Complexes, play a pivotal role in Nigeria’s maritime trade and commerce.

The NPA boss acknowledged the collaborative efforts with security partners such as the Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, DSS, and the Lagos State Government.

Such partnerships are instrumental in fortifying the port’s security apparatus and ensuring a safe and secure environment for maritime operations.

The inauguration event not only highlights the NPA’s proactive approach to security but also underscores its overarching goal of transforming Nigeria’s ports into sustainable and efficient maritime logistics hubs.

With enhanced security measures and increased vessel traffic, Onne Port is poised to further solidify its position as a key maritime gateway in the region.
