Ethiopian Airlines has made history by securing the largest-ever purchase of Boeing airplanes on the African continent.

The airline has inked a deal for 11 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 20 737 MAX airplanes, with an option for an additional 15 Dreamliners and 21 MAX jets.

This monumental agreement, announced at the Dubai Airshow, emphasizes Ethiopian Airlines’ commitment to growth and strategic development.

In a statement, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO, Mesfin Tasew, expressed enthusiasm, stating, “This order supports our growth plan and Vision 2035 Strategy, solidifying our longstanding partnership with Boeing.”

The order includes the 787-9 Dreamliner, known for its fuel efficiency and emissions reduction by 25%, and the 737-8 model, enhancing environmental performance and passenger comfort with a 20% reduction in fuel use.

Boeing’s Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing, Brad McMullen, commended the commitment, stating, “Ethiopian Airlines continues its leadership as one of Africa’s preeminent airlines with this landmark commitment to expand their 787 and 737 MAX fleets.”

Also, Boeing and Ethiopian Airlines will collaborate on cabin modification services for existing 787 Dreamliners, focusing on enhancing the passenger experience with advanced in-flight entertainment and new seats in all cabins.

This strategic move positions Ethiopian Airlines as a frontrunner in Africa’s aviation landscape.
