Domestic airlines operating under the banner of the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) have called upon the Federal Government to grant them licenses for the importation and distribution of aviation fuel, commonly known as JetA1.

During a courtesy visit to the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, in Abuja, AON also urged the government to establish a dedicated support line for domestic carriers to access foreign exchange from the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Abdulmunaf Yunusa, the President of AON, outlined the purpose of their visit as an effort to address the challenges facing the aviation sector and to offer solutions. He also congratulated Minister Keyamo on his recent appointment.

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Capt. Roland Iyayi, CEO of Top Brass Aviation, emphasized the need for a consistent supply of aviation fuel.

He stated, “There is an urgent need to facilitate the liberalization, procurement, and distribution of JetA1 nationwide and allow AON to procure the requisite license for product importation and distribution.”

Iyayi also stressed the burden of foreign exchange constraints, urging the government to establish a dedicated support line for airlines to access foreign currency.

Minister Keyamo acknowledged these concerns and promised to collaborate with the Central Bank of Nigeria to explore options for providing forex at lower interest rates.

In closing, Minister Keyamo urged airlines to prioritize safety, emphasizing its pivotal role in the aviation industry’s success.

As the government considers these demands, the domestic airline industry remains hopeful for positive reforms that could alleviate their challenges and enhance the overall travel experience for passengers.
