Elon Musk’s satellite company, Starlink, has forged an alliance with e-commerce giant Jumia Technologies AG.

According to Hisham El Gabry, Jumia’s Chief Commercial Officer, Starlink’s cutting-edge satellite broadband technology will soon be available to customers in select African nations, beginning with Nigeria.

“We’ve witnessed Starlink’s success in Southeast Asia and South America, and now Africa is poised to experience lightning-fast internet connectivity,” El Gabry stated in an exclusive interview.

The strategic plan involves selling Starlink’s satellite terminals and related equipment through Jumia’s online platforms and local agents, with Nigeria set to be the first market to benefit from this game-changing collaboration, followed by Kenya.

This partnership holds immense promise for bridging the digital divide in regions with limited formal addresses and city mapping, where traditional internet infrastructure struggles to reach.

Earlier this year, Nigeria made history by becoming the first African nation to receive Starlink’s satellite internet services, marking a significant leap forward in connecting remote and underserved areas.

Starlink’s constellation of satellites, positioned much closer to Earth than conventional satellites, promises lower latency and the ability to deliver services previously unattainable with traditional satellite internet.

As Starlink’s presence expands across Africa, it holds the potential to unlock unprecedented opportunities for education, commerce, and innovation on the continent, illuminating Africa with the power of high-speed connectivity.
