Investors Gain as NGX ASI Appreciates by 0.36%

The Nigerian Bourse closed green amid sell-offs and buy-interests as bulls took control and raised the overall market by 36 basis points on 16th May 2023.

The All-share Index (ASI) increased by 0.36% to close at 52,419.33 points, reflecting a 1-week loss of 0.35%, a 4-week gain of 0.91%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 2.28%.

A total of 114 stocks listed on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) collectively traded during the day, with 26 gainers and 19 losers at the close. NB, which saw its share price rise by 9.97% to close at N35.30 a share, was the biggest gainer. CWG led on the losing side with a 9.63% price decline at N1.69 per share at the day’s end.

The closing prices for NGX Banking, NGX Industrial, NGX Consumer Goods, NGX Oil and Gas, and NGX Insurance were +1.10%, +0.06, +0.85%, -0.72%, and +3.19%, respectively. The NGX Top 30, NGX Top 50 Index, NGX Pension Index, and NGX Premium Index also performed admirably.

The NGX closed the day’s trading session with a total of 576,851,400 shares exchanged in 6,143 deals, translating to a market value of N 6,789,554,256.29. The numbers reveal an 8% decrease in volume, a 21% increase in turnover, and a 2% increase in deals when compared to the previous NGX trading day.

Compared with the previous NGX trading day, there was an 8% decline in volume, 21% improvement in turnover, and 2% improvement in deals while the current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange stood at N 28.542 trillion.
