Dangote Group, one of Nigeria’s leading multinational companies, has announced the launch date of its long-awaited Dangote Refinery, which is set to be the world’s largest single-train refinery.

The refinery is located in the Lekki Free Zone area of Lagos State, and its commissioning is scheduled to take place on May 22, 2023.

The Dangote Refinery is expected to bring a lasting solution to Nigeria’s perennial refining issues, and this could aid the federal government’s efforts to make the country self-sufficient in local refining of crude oil.

The refinery will produce up to 650,000 barrels per day, which will significantly reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported petroleum products and help conserve scarce foreign exchange.

Reports have it that the refinery’s pre-inauguration tests are currently ongoing, and it has already been completed.

The refinery covered a land area of approximately 2,635 hectares, which is larger than the size of Victoria Island in Lagos. Its pipeline infrastructure is also said to be the largest in the world, with 1,100 kilometers to handle three billion Standard Cubic Feet per day (Scf/d) of gas.

According to the refinery management, it is equipped with a 435MW-capacity power plant that can meet the total power requirement of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC). This means that the refinery is not only set to provide jobs for Nigerians, but it will also generate significant revenue for the country.

The commissioning of the Dangote Refinery is a significant milestone in Nigeria’s quest for self-sufficiency in local refining of crude oil. The refinery will also help to improve Nigeria’s economic development, especially in the energy sector.

Dangote Group has been a major player in Nigeria’s economic growth for several decades, and the launch of the Dangote Refinery is a testament to its commitment to the country’s progress. The company’s investment in the refinery is expected to boost Nigeria’s refining capacity and aid its journey towards becoming a developed economy.

The launch of the Dangote Refinery is expected to bring lasting solutions to Nigeria’s refining challenges and help the country attain its goals of self-sufficiency in the local refining of crude oil.
