Tech giant Google is reportedly testing some advanced AI features on its search engine to enhance users’ experience, which is also part of its plan to respond to OpenAI chatbot ChatGPT.

The company’s CEO Sundar Pichai recently disclosed that these features will be launched soon and people will be able to interact with the newest and most powerful language model.

In his words, “Very soon people will be able to interact directly with our newest, most powerful language model as a companion to search in an experiment and innovative ways. Google will release the large language model for dialogue applications in the coming weeks and months, so the company can get more feedback”.

Investors King understands that following the launch of AI chatbot ChatGPT in November last year, Google has been facing intense pressure to ensure it doesn’t lose users as the chatbot seem to have gathered millions of users since its launch.

Knowing full well that Google’s prime business is web search, and the company has touted itself as a pioneer in AI, as it is reportedly testing some AI features to prevent falling behind in its entire model of internet search.

Last month, reports revealed that Google is asked employees to test potential ChatGPT competitors, after an all-hands meeting, where employees raised concerns about the company’s competitive edge in AI, given the sudden popularity of ChatGPT.

The company is currently testing an AI chatbot feature where employees can ask questions and receive detailed answers similar to ChatGPT. Also, another product unit at Google has been testing a new search desktop design that could be used in a question-and-answer format.

It is however interesting to note that last month, Google’s founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, held several meetings with company executives. The topic: a rival’s new chatbot, a clever A.I. product that looked as if it could be the first notable threat in decades to Google’s $149 billion search business.

The re-engagement of Google’s founders, at the invitation of the company’s current chief executive, Sundar Pichai, emphasized the urgency felt among many Google executives about artificial intelligence and that chatbot, ChatGPT.

ChatGPT’s arrival has no doubt shaken Google out of its routine, with the founders who left three years ago re-engaging and more than 20 A.I. projects currently in the works.
