The Federal Government has urged Nigerians living in Ukraine to remain calm and vigilant in the face of the Russia-Ukraine crisis while also taking responsibility for their own security and safety.

This was revealed in a statement released by the Nigerian Embassy in Kyiv, which advised Nigerian students seeking temporary relocation to get proper authorization and guarantee forms from their respective universities before doing so.

Recall that Russian troops launched a wide-ranging war on Ukraine on Thursday, as President Vladimir Putin disregard international criticism, condemnation, and sanctions.

The Embassy responded by stating that any Nigerian who finds the crisis emotionally distressing should temporarily migrate to a safe location through “private arrangement.”

The Embassy urged all Nigerians to double-check all of their residency paperwork to ensure that they can easily return to the country if they choose to after the whole crisis has been addressed.

The embassy also noted that the Ukraine government has declared a state of emergency and Martial law on the entire territory of Ukraine except the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, which is expected to take effect from midnight of February 23, 2022, for a period of 30 days, as well as the latest development on the Ukraine-Russia crises.

It further stated that for individuals who desire to remain in the country, the embassy’s consular services and authorities are accessible at any time.
