Ogun Receives 50,000 Doses of COVID -19 Vaccine

On Monday, the Ogun state government received the first batch of 50,000 out of 100,000 expected doses of COVID -19 vaccines from the Federal Government.

The vaccine was received at the governor’s office Abeokuta. The State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, noted that the remaining 50,000 doses of the vaccines would arrive later.

“It may be tonight or tomorrow, but I and the deputy governor will lead other members of our team to take the vaccines”, he said.

Governor Abiodun said he and his deputy, Mrs. Noimot Salako-Oyedele will lead other members of the state executive in taking the COVID-19 vaccine as a demonstration of faith in the safety and efficacy of the vaccines as soon as the doctors are ready to administer it on them.

He also stated that the state, which was the first in the country to record the first case of Coronavirus in the country, is also the first to receive the vaccine in the country owing to its preparedness

The governor further assured that the state would commence the vaccinations in line with the scheduled guidelines laid down by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).

Governor Abiodun further added that the state has identified particular state hospitals, general hospitals, primary health care centers across the state that would be used as Vaccination centers.

“I am sure you are aware that there is a portal that already exists and there is a link that allows you to register or preregister and identify your local government so it can be close to the available center as possible.

“We will be prioritising our front line health workers, our elders and we go down the line as stipulated by NPHCDA,” he said.

According to the Governor, the arrival of the vaccine signaled the beginning to end the global health pandemic that had disrupted lives in the last 13 months.

“This vaccine that we are getting, the protocol is that we get the first shot and then we get the booster shots and it is not until we get that booster shots that we have the required level of immunity.

“Even at that, what science tells us is that it is meant to reduce the severity of disease so the COVID-19 protocols and guidelines will still continue to obtain.” He added
