Africa CDC, ARC Launch COVID-19 Modelling Tools

The African Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) with the African Risk Capacity (ARC) have launched two COVID-19 modelling tools for African countries.

According to the organisations, the tools would help to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in all African Union member states.

The two COVID-19 modelling tools are ‘COVID-19 Potential Outcomes Scenarios’ and COVID-19 Spread Simulation Tool for Africa.’

One of the tools- COVID-19 Potential Outcomes Scenarios would help in modelling the effect of the virus using specific sets of scenarios and assumptions, while the other, COVID-19 Spread Simulation Tool for Africa, will simulate different scenarios of COVID-19 spread for each nation.

When speaking on the two COVID-19 modelling tools, Mr. Mohamed Beavogui, the Director-General of African Risk Capacity and Assistant Secretary-General at the United Nations, said: “COVID-19 has generated unprecedented socioeconomic consequences with the reversal of hard-won development achievements. Africa is particularly challenged in its efforts to cope with the decease burdens.”
