FG to Reopen the Nation’s Airports on July 8, 11 and 15

The Federal Government on Wednesday announced that the nation’s domestic flights that have been suspended since March, after COVID-19 broke out in the country, will now resume operations on July 8, 2020.

The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja.

He said Owerri, Port Harcourt and Maiduguri airports will open for flight operations on July 11th.

“The Port Harcourt, Owerri, and Maiduguri airports will reopen to flights on the 11th of July, while other airports across the country will join on the 15th of July,” the minister stated.

“Passengers looking to travel out of the country will have to wait a bit longer as the dates for the restart of international flights into and out of the country will be announced later.”

While passengers and airline companies have been advised to adhere to safety guidelines and protocols put in place, the rising number of new cases suggest the nation might bigger threat if safety measures put in place failed to curtail the fast-spreading virus.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Nigeria’s confirmed cases of COVID-19 rose by 790 to 26,484 on Wednesday.

The disease center said, “Till date, 26484 cases have been confirmed, 10152 cases have been discharged and 603 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory.”

In the last 24 hours, 13 deaths were recorded across the country.

“On the 1st of July 2020, 790 new confirmed cases and 13 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.”
