Federal Government to Support 1.6 Million Farmers During 2020 Wet Season

The Federal Government through the Central Bank of Nigeria will be financing at least 1.6 million farmers during the 2020 wet planting season.

According to the bank, farmers would be supported in the production of ten key agro-commodities and cultivation.

The commodities were listed as cotton, rice, oil palm, tomato, cassava, poultry, fish, maize, cocoa and livestock/dairy.

Yila Yusuf, the Director, Development Finance Department, CBN, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja at the inauguration of farm inputs distribution for cotton farmers for the 2020 planting season.

The director added that the financial aid planned for the 1.6 million farmers would ensure food security in Nigeria, especially after the negative impact of COVID-19 on the agricultural sector.
