BUA Group, the second-largest cement manufacturer in West Africa, has donated a total sum of N4.9 billion since coronavirus first broke out in Nigeria.

In a letter released by the Group and obtained by Investors King, the Group said after reviewing COVID-19 situation in the country, especially Kano State, it has decided to donate an additional N3.3 billion to support the fight against the deadly disease.

This amount is in addition to the N1 billion previously donated to private sector coalition, CA-COVID, and N600 million disbursed to various states. Bringing the total amount donated by the BUA Group so far to N4.9 billion.

Abdul Samad Rabiu, the founder and chairman, BUA Group, said “I view with deep concern, the increased rate of spread of the Coronavirus especially in Kano and Lagos despite concerted collective efforts to curb the spread and effects of the virus in Nigeria. I also wish to commend the leadership shown by the taskforce as well as the NCDC in this fight. However, we all know more needs to be done.

“Based on what is going on especially in Kano at the moment, we have decided in the immediate, to commit a 3.3 billion Naira grant to a working group made of the Presidential Taskforce, NCDC and other stakeholders in equipping 2 existing permanent facilities in Kano and Lagos States – whilst collaborating with the teaching hospitals in those states.”

The total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases rose to 1182 on Saturday 25th of April, 2020, up from about 42 a month ago. Suggesting that the pace of spread has increased exponentially in recent weeks.

Total deaths jumped from 2 a month ago to 35 on Saturday, explaining why BUA Group is making an additional donation.
