- COVID-19: Airports to Remain Closed for Another Two Weeks – FG
The Federal Government on Monday extended the closure of airports for another two weeks starting from April 23, 2020.
Hadi Sirika, the Minister of Aviation, made the announcement via his verified Twitter handle.
The Federal Government had closed the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, and other airports nationwide to curtail the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
Capt. Musa Nuhu, Director-General, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, had said the shutdown would last until April 23, 2020.
The minister of aviation, however, said it has been extended in line with President Muhammadu Buhari latest directive.
Sirika said, “As a result of the extension of lockdown by Mr. President, it is no longer possible for us to open our airspace and airports for normal operations by the 23rd of April, 2020.
“They will remain closed for a further two weeks. This (is) subject to review as appropriate.”
