No fewer than 136 South Africans have been evacuated from Nigeria through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

The South Africans were evacuated by South African Airways SA2259 flight conducted with Airbus 346 with registration number ZS -SNB. The flight arrived in Nigeria on Sunday with 17 passengers, including the crew members.

The evacuation makes South Africa the ninth nation to repatriate citizens from Nigeria due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last week, the US embassy in Nigeria announced it had evacuated 997 Americans through chartered flights operated by Delta Airlines and Ethiopian Airlines.

Other nations that have repatriated citizens from Nigeria in the last two weeks were Germany, France, Netherlands, Canada and Isreal.
