Zimbabwe, another African nation, has recorded the very first death due to COVID -19 few hours after Nigeria announced the death of Suleiman Achimugu, the former managing director of Pipelines and Products Marketing Company.

According to the Zimbabwean Health and Child Care Minister, Obediah Moyo, the 30 years old journalist, Zororo Makamba, was the second person to test positive for the virus in Zimbabwe.

“Mr Zororo Makamba, the son of Mr James Makamba has passed on. I have just learned of this tragic loss of life due to the virus. A giant with so much potential has fallen. Corona is real. Let us pause and reflect. Life is too precious,” Mutumwa Mawere, Zimbabwean-South African businessman, tweeted.

The number of African cases continues to rise with South Africa leading with over 400 cases, Nigeria total cases rose by 22 in four days to 35 with one death.

The Gambia also registered its first death after the pandemic claimed the life of a 70-year old Bangladeshi man on a preaching mission in the country.

According to Dr. Samateh, the Health Minister, Gambia, the man had traveled to the Gambia on the 13th of March before testing positive for the deadly virus.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Africa has now risen to over 1,400, according to unverified data by the World Health Organisation, African region.
