Coronavirus: NBA Suspends Remain Games this Season

  • Coronavirus: NBA Suspends Remain Games this Season

The National Basketball Association, USA, on Wednesday announced it has suspended the remain games of this season indefinitely after Rudy Gobert, a Utah Jazz player, tested positive to Coronavirus.

“The NBA is suspending gameplay following the conclusion of tonight’s schedule of games until further notice,” the league said in a statement. “The NBA will use this hiatus to determine next steps for moving forward in regard to the coronavirus pandemic.”

The World Health Organisation (WHO) on Wednesday declared the outbreak as a global pandemic, prompting President Donald Trump to announce a ban on European flights for the next 30 days after the number of infected Americans rose to over 1,200 with at least 37 deaths.

The global commodity market declined by the most this week with crude oil plunging by 30 percent on Monday alone.

According to Forbes, the suspension could cost clubs a combined $500 million going by the $2.5 billion generated last year from tickets, suites, parking and concessions, excluding the playoffs. Suspending one-fifth of the season would translate to $500 million in loss and could hit a billion if sponsorship and deals are factored in.
