- FG to Borrow $22.7 billion as Senate Approves Buhari’s Request
The Senate on Thursday approved President Muhammadu Buhari’s request to borrow an additional loan of $22.7 billion from international banks.
The request that led to a heated debate and eventually a closed session was later approved after 45 minutes of deliberation led by Senator Clifford Ordia, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Loans.
The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan assured the members of the red chamber that the loan would be spent on projects that would impact the lives of all Nigerians.
He, however, challenged the committees of the Senate to also ensure strict oversight so that every dollar of the loan would be accounted for.
