- Songroute Distributes Over 1,000 Tracks in 3 Months
Nigerian music streaming app, Playfre, today announces that its music distribution arm Songroute have achieved a fit of 1,083 tracks distributed in its first three months of launch since June 2019.
Songroute is said to report revenue of $6,934 for its first quarter in 2019 (Jun – Sept). Distributing a little bit over 300 tracks monthly, the distribution company have distributed contents from 821 artists from over 23 nationalities across Africa and have paid $3,467 in royalties.
Though its core focus is distributing contents from African artists, the young distribution company have distributed contents from artists outside of Africa, including Slovakia, UAE, India, United Kingdom and the United States.
As of writing, Songroute has distributed 1,083 tracks by 821 artists from 23 countries since Jun 2019.
Chika Nwaogu, Playfre’s CEO said: “It was not surprising to have distributed over 1,000 tracks in three months as we are not only a distribution company but an emerging music streaming service too. So it was easy for us to gain the trust of African artists; this enabled them to easily choose us to take their content where it needs to go. Playfre is expected to hit profitability in a few months and I am excited”
“Though we will not reach profitability from revenues generated from the music streaming app itself but through revenues generated from our music distribution arm; Songroute.” Chika added.
Songroute is a digital music publishing platform owned by Playfre which focuses on distributing contents for emerging and major African acts.
Available in 5 African countries and with operations in both Kenya and Nigeria, Playfre is an African music streaming platform that was launched on 1 May 2019. The platform offers its users access to over 50 million songs for free. To date, Playfre has amassed over 5,000 registered users and over 1,000,000 streams.
