American streaming platform, Netflix, has acquired yet another Nigerian movie to further push its acquisition of original contents to the top on the continent.

The streaming giant acquired ‘Mokalik’, the new movie produced and directed by award-winning director, Kunle Afolayan. This was after Netflix had acquired ‘Lionheart’ produced by Genevieve Nnaji in 2018.

Mr Kunle Afolayan, who was at the French-Nigerian Cinema Days between July 2-3 at the Alliance Francaise, Ikoyi, Lagos, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday.

“I wish to inform you that Netflix has acquired “Mokalik” and some other of my films,” Mr. Afolayan said.

Just like the Lionheart, Mr. Afolayan did not disclose the amount paid by the American streaming giant.

He, however, said the company is yet to announce a release date for the movies.

The acquisition represents Netflix’s drive to deepen its presence across the world by tailoring contents to the local market and sustaining its broad diversified audience.

The company budgeted $15 billion to boost its ‘Netflix Originals’ contents across the world.
