  • Apapa Gridlock: FG Gives Taskforce 14 Days Extension

The Federal Government has extended weeks given to Osinbajo led taskforce to clear Apapa traffic gridlock.

The task force had requested an extension to better enforce the law and clear the affected area a week ago.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo approved 14 days extension at a meeting held between the Presidential Taskforce and stakeholders on Tuesday in Abuja.

The task force commenced operation on May 24, 2019, and mandated to clear the area on or before June 7, however, the government now expect the operation to be completed by June 24 after extending the period.

Osinbajo, who spoke at the meeting on Tuesday, said, “We will extend the tenure of the task force by two weeks and we must all work together to be able to resolve all the issues raised here today.”

Speaking on challenges of providing lasting solutions to the problem, the Vice President stated, “It will take both medium and long term solutions to ultimately enable us present to the users an efficient port environment for the economy and businesses to thrive.”

He warned, “We will not allow any interests to undermine our nation’s economy.”
