- Germany Supports Rice Farmers With €2m
The German government in collaboration with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has provided €2 million for the implementation of the second phase of the Competitive African Rice Initiative (CARI) in Nigeria.
Mr Jean-Bernard Lalannehe, programme director, CARI, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja.
According to Lalannehe, the CARI-2 phase would be implemented in three Nigerian states, Jigawa, Kaduna and Kebbi states.
“The first phase of the project ended in 2015, and CARI 2 is being implemented in the three Nigerian states to achieve its objective through the use of the Multi-Action Partnership (MAP).”
“MAP is a concept that allows for regional initiative and policies to be harmonised while enforcing coordination among other actors in the rice value chain in different countries.”
The programme was launched in four countries, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Tanzania and Nigeria, in 2013 to support and ensure smallholder farmers earn enough to provide for their families through high-quality rice farming.
