Anthony Joshua lost to Andy Ruiz Jr in one of the greatest upsets in the history of the sport.

Despite Anthony Joshua putting Ruiz down in round three, the new champion went on to put Joshua down twice in the same round before disrupting whatever plans Joshua had with his hand speed and power.

Anthony Joshua seems confused throughout the fight and was largely fighting to survive despite been the bigger man.

The British-Nigerian has now lost all his four belts to Andy Ruiz Jr, first Mexico’s heavyweight champion of the world and the new IBF, WBO, IBF and IBO champion of the world.

Andy Ruiz Jr was a last minute replacement for Big Baby Miller who tested positive for three different banned substances.

The new heavyweight champion of the world said leading up to the fight that Anthony Joshua and the fans are underestimating him, but he is going to cause great upset and emerge first-ever Mexico’s heavyweight champion of the world.

The new champion has done all he promised his fans and country, now he can work towards defending his title against Anthony Joshua in a rematch.

Andy Ruiz Jr knocked Anthony Joshua out in the world’s greatest upset in boxing history.

Lets quickly look at the fight round by round

Anthony Joshua started round one with an effective jab taking advantage of his reach and height, however, Ruiz was able to keep the champion on the back foot for the larger part of the first round.

Ruiz continued the same strategy in round two but up the pressure with good defense to take him within and outside Joshua reach.

In round three, Joshua came out firing jabs and landed an effective hook that put Ruiz down early in the round. Ruiz quickly got back up before the 10 counts and immediately went after Joshua, an unusual move for someone just knocked down. He refused to hold on and continue to pressure Joshua and landed on Joshua jaw and down Joshua goes.

Joshua beats the count but Ruiz continued the same strategy of pressuring Joshua and had him on the run without a defense until Joshua got caught again in round three and went down for a second time.

In round five both were wary of each other’s power and remained cautious throughout with Ruiz getting the better part of that round.

In round six, Anthony Joshua managed to recover and tried to impose himself on Ruiz, the now confidence Ruiz didn’t buy it and continue the same strategy of coming forward and despite Joshua wobbling him in that round.

In round seven, Joshua lands few punches but Ruiz meets them head-on, followed by exchanges and down goes Joshua for the third time. Referee Mike Griffin wave off the fight after speaking to Joshua.

Andy Ruiz Jr was declared the winner of Anthony Joshua first ever fight in the United States.
