Residents of some communities in Ondo South Senatorial District of Ondo State have called on the Federal Government to find a solution to the electricity problem facing them.

Speaking on behalf of the affected communities, the Senator-elect for Ondo South, Mr, Nicholas Tofowomo, urged the Federal Government to look into the activities of electricity distribution companies in the country.

Tofowomo, who was on a fact-finding mission to Omotosho Power Plant in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state, in company of some residents of the affected communities, said BEDC Electricity Plc was not performing up to expectations in the affected areas.

The Senator-elect, who held a meeting the management staff of the power plant, said, “It is very sad that over 90 per cent of Ondo South communities are in darkness for many years without any solution to it. We have spoken with the management of the phase one and two of this power plant, and they have told us what they have done.

“Even Omotosho town, which is the host community of this power plant, has no electricity supply. Unfortunately the BEDC is not doing enough; we have to make them work. We should discourage estimated billing; let them make meters available to all customers.

“If the Discos are not living up to the expectations of Nigerians, why should the Federal Government renew their licences? There is a lot to do on this matter.”
