  • FG Builds 536 Housing Units in North Central

The National Housing Programme North Central, Zonal Director, Mr Valentine Nwaimo, on Sunday said the 536 housing units beings constructed in the zone under the National Housing Programme are ready for inauguration and allocation.

Mr Nwaimo, who disclosed this in an interview session, in Abuja, on Sunday, said the 536 houses being constructed in the six states of the zone and FCT is at the completion stage, with most of the houses undergoing finishing  touches, including infrastructural projects, noting that by April all the 536 housing units, including infrastructure will be inaugurated.

“We are quite sure that by April all the 536 housing units including infrastructure will be completed and inaugurated for occupation,’’ Nwaimo said.

Nwaimo further said that the National Housing Programme in the North Central comprises of; 72 units in FCT, 76 in Kogi, 76 in Kwara, 80 in Niger, 76 in Nassarawa, 76 in Benue and 80 in Plateau.

He explained further, stating that the National Housing Programme in Kogi had been completed and was awaiting inauguration and occupancy. That of Plateau, Niger, Nassarawa and the FCT were between 7o to 80 per cent completion, while the rest were nearing completion level.

Speaking on the quality of works done in the zone, Nwaimo expressed satisfaction, adding that the Federal Government deployed competent professionals, who were residents in the various states and also charged them with the responsibility of monitoring the day-to-day activities in the various sites.

“The specification and designs were being made possible by day-to-day supervision from these professionals so that the contractors would not compromise.” he said.

In an earlier report, the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN), had said that the National Housing Programme of the Federal Government has led to a nationwide housing construction being undertaken in 34 states “where we have received land”.

According to the Minister, no less than 1,000 people were put to work on each site aside the personal staff of some of the contractors, thereby boosting job opportunities and a collective nation building.
