The Federal Government on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Hauwei Technologies Nigeria Limited for the training of 1,000 civil servants in Information and Communication Technology.

According to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, who signed on behalf of the government in Abuja, the training targets officers who are below 55 years of age.

He said the programme supports the area of automation of government’s processes and bureaucratic procedures and would make them more efficient by implementing an enterprise content management solution.

Mustapha stated, “This occasion exemplifies government’s partnership with private sector organisations to drive the implementation of its policies and programmes. Today marks another historic day in the annals of the current administration and the federal civil service.

“We are gathered for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for the second phase of the Information and Communication Technology for Change programme between the Federal Government of Nigeria and Huawei Technologies Company Nigeria Limited.”

The SGF said the first phase of the programme commenced in January 2017 and was concluded early this year, adding that 2,000 Nigerian youths were trained during the exercise.

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Winifred Oyo-Ita, stated that the ICT training for workers would help the Federal Government to achieve one of its goals in the civil service reform.

She said, “This is a good initiative of Huawei to come a step further to work with the Federal Government and indeed civil servants to provide training opportunities in ICT. This will go a long way in helping us to achieve one of our goals in our 2017-2020 Civil Service Strategy Reform.

“This goal is capacity development for civil servants and capacity, especially in the area of technological know-how and so we look forward to a very productive engagement.”
