- NIOB Hosts Forum on Safety Policy Enforcement
The Nigerian Institute of Building, Lagos State Chapter, has said there is a need for the enforcement of safety policies on building project sites.
The Chairman, NIOB, Lagos, Mr Adekanmbi Adelaja, said the institute would at its 27th Conference and Annual General Meeting focus on educating everyone on the importance of safety on project sites.
He noted that the theme of the conference, ‘Safety, health and environmental concerns and their management on building projects in Lagos State: Holistic and best practices’, would also teach people how to identify safety hazards in each activity to be carried out on a section of work before carrying it out.
He stated, “The conference, which will hold on October 24 and 25, will enable speakers to teach people best practices, mostly as practiced by multinational companies.
“They will educate us on the implication and rights of the employee and the employer for not using personal protective equipment as well as not providing it for operatives on site.”
Adeleja said the speakers would also discuss the role of government agencies in the enforcement and prosecution of offences, hence the collaboration with the Lagos State Safety Commission.
He added that the theme of the two-day event was chosen as a follow up to the 2017 conference, which he noted was a success.
