The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday awarded a contract for the construction of a road in Sokoto State in order to ease human movement as well as transportation of agricultural products.

The cost of the contract was put at N5.202bn.

The Minister of State, Power, Works and Housing, Suleiman Hassan, disclosed this to State House correspondents at the end of a meeting of the council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Hassan was joined at the briefing by the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed; and the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige.

He said the 28.75km road links Sokoto State to Zamfara State.

The minister said, “This afternoon, we approved the award of contract for the construction of Kagigi, Jaro, Goraye, and Takwaco Road in Sokoto State.

“This is a 28.75km road linking Sokoto and Zamfara states.

“It is in a very good agricultural zone. It will be able to ferry agricultural goods and human traffic between these two states to the neighbouring countries such as Niger Republic.

“This contract is awarded to Messrs Sky Technical and Construction Company Limited at the cost of N5.202bn.”

Meanwhile, at the commencement of the FEC meeting, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, presented a 1,042-page achievement compendium of the present administration to Buhari.

Mustapha explained that the compendium was a summary of policies and programmes implemented between 2015 and 2017 as approved by FEC.

He said the document would serve as first-hand information to the President on projects and programmes implemented.

The document, he said, would also serve as a reference point and lend credence to the fact that the administration had fulfilled its campaign promises.

“It is a valid and vivid proof of the giant strides by this administration,” the SGF said.

Mustapha said the document would be circulated to all Ministries, Department and Agencies.
