- Gas Unavailability, Others Prevent 3,721MW Power Generation
The Federal Government on Tuesday put the total quantum of electricity that could not be generated and fed to the national grid at 3,721 megawatts.
It said the unavailability of gas, transmission and distribution infrastructure as well as high frequency prevented the generation of over 3,700MW of electricity on August 20, 2018.
The government’s latest power generation figures were contained in the report of the Advisory Power Team in the Office of the Vice President, and obtained by our correspondent in Abuja.
The country’s power sector also lost N1.786bn on August 20, 2018 as a result of the earlier stated constraints, bringing the total amount lost by the industry since the beginning of this year to N324.3bn.
The Executive Secretary, Association of Power Generation Companies, Joy Ogaji, said the operations and maintenance cost of electricity generating stations had increased as a result of the inefficient management of the grid.
She stated that on several occasions every day, the frequency of the grid was getting out of the safe zone for all the load on the power generating units.
