Some federal retirees have called on the Federal Government to pay their pension arrears that had been pending for years.

They also called on the government to pay the arrears of the 33 per cent increase in their pensions.

Speaking to our correspondent, the Chairman, Federal Concerned Pensioners, Mr David Adodo, said many retirees were broke and needed their money to offset their huge liabilities.

He said, “Many retirees that were not collecting pensions before have been placed on payroll, but all pensions for the outstanding years that they were delisted have not been paid. Some were not paid for more than eight years and they are still expecting to get their bulk money but nothing is being said about their arrears.”

According to him, the retirees had health challenges and rents to pay which the monthly pensions could not address.

He said the urgent payment of the bulk funds would prolong the lives of the distressed pensioners.

Adodo also said the retirees were expecting to get the outstanding months of the 33 per cent pension increase.

PTAD stated that it added 7,969 civil service pensioners to its payroll and they had started receiving regular monthly pensions.

The directorate said the addition of the group had improved the economic livelihood of pensioners who had been deprived of their rights for a long period.

Before this addition, PTAD said over 19,500 verified civil service pensioners from the North-West, South-East, North-East and South-South had been reinstated and paid their arrears.
