The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation announced on Thursday that it had commenced a nationwide audit of the field operations of its subsidiary, NNPC Retail Limited.

The NNPC Retail Limited is the downstream subsidiary of the national oil firm, which engages in the supply and distribution of petroleum products.

The Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, NNPC, Ndu Ughamadu, said the corporation embarked on the nationwide audit in order to ensure that all delisted trucks were in compliance with the requirement to remove the company’s logo and other brand attributes from them.

He noted that the move was to ensure that only authentic NNPC Retail tested and certified trucks bear the company’s logo and brand insignia, adding that the audit would help instil lasting sanity in the petroleum products haulage space across the country.

On the trending video on social media showing a leaky fuel truck bearing the NNPC Retail insignia and speeding along a highway, the corporation dismissed the video, noting that there was nothing concrete in the said clip to show that the truck in question belong to the NNPC Retail fleet.

It added that its in-house investigation had been constrained by the lack of a plate number on the said truck and other identification marks that the oil firm normally stencils on all authentic NNPC Retail trucks.

It further stated that in line with its operational ethos on safety, all NNPC Retail trucks were road worthy and were subjected to the strictest oil and gas industry safety protocols and procedures.

The corporation enjoined members of the public to call the on some dedicated numbers if they spot any unprofessional act by trucks bearing the NNPC Retail logo, colours or name.

It implored the public to quickly note the number plates of such errant vehicles or drivers and report same to the company or to the nearest relevant law enforcement agency.

The NNPC also commiserated with the government and people of Lagos State as well as the families of the victims of the unfortunate fuel tanker inferno on the Otedola Bridge last week, which resulting in loss of lives and vehicles.
