The Federal Government on Tuesday announced that all was set for the implementation of the air safety recommendations contained in a report prepared by the Accident Investigation Bureau.

It stated that the decision to implement the recommendations was to ensure the safety and security of Nigerians at airports across the country.

The Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sarika, stated these while receiving the 130 recommendations presented to the Federal Government by the AIB at the headquarters of the aviation ministry in Abuja.

Sirika said the recommendations contained in the report would be implemented fully, adding that regulators in the sector must all adhere strictly to them.

“The safety recommendation report will be fully implemented though not all has been implemented. Our duty as a government and regulators is to ensure its implementation. For the fact that from inception we have not received any report like this and now that we have it, means that the onus is on us to ensure that all the 130 recommendations are fully implemented,” he stated.

Sirika said the aviation industry had since inception focused on safety and security issues, adding that this would continue unabated.

“In order to attract investors and comfort in our country, we will continue in this direction to ensure that our industry is safe and secure; and once that is achieved, the rest is easy,” he added.

The Commissioner/Chief Executive Officer, AIB, Akin Olateru, called for the full implementation of the safety and security measure recommendations in the report.

He said the implementation of the recommendations would prevent future accidents, but stressed that inadequate funding and human capital as well as lack of thorough reorientation of safety and security procedures at airports could mar the full implementation of the report.
