In order to revitalise economic activities at the Agbara-Igbesaaxis,theOgun State Government, in conjunction with a private firm, China-Africa Investment, has begun the reconstruction of the 10-kilometre Lusada-Igbesa road through Public-Private Partnership arrangement.

The reconstruction of the single carriageway complete with median, street lights, drains and walkway, according to a statement by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Mr.AyokunleEwuoso, will allow the road to stand the test of time and equally beautify the area.

Speaking at the ground-breakingfor the commencement of the reconstruction of the road, Governor IbikunleAmosun explained that the decision to reconstruct it was based on the government’s determination to enhance the status of the area as the industrial hub of the state.

Amosun, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Kayode Ademolake, said the PPP arrangement adopted was the Build, Operate and Transfer model, adding that it was not only aimed at involving the private sector in the provisions of key infrastructure, it would also free the much needed funds to enable the government to provide more dividends of democracy.

He pointed out that those whose buildings were affected due to the road reconstruction had been compensated by the government, noting that residents of Igbesa town as well as commercial motorcycle riders and tricycle operators would be exempted from paying tolls on the road when completed.

In his remarks, the Managing Director, China-Africa Investment, Mr. Wu, promised that the road reconstruction would be completed in record time, and sought the cooperation of the indigenes of the area.

Speaking on behalf of the indigenes, the Asiwaju of Igbesa and Chairman, Community Consultative Forum, Ajibola Olagbaye, pledged the full support of his people, appealing to motorists and other road users to bear the strains and stress during the reconstruction period.
