The Lagos State Government on Thursday warned newly recruited 1,500 Local Government Area workers to shun corruption and be dedicated to duty.

The Head of Service, Folasade Adesoye, gave the warning at the opening ceremony of three-day induction training for 1,500 newly employed workers of the state councils at the Public Service Staff Development Centre, Magodo.

She told the new workers that the opportunities provided by the training would help them after their deployment to adjust to workplace experience and other essential attributes.

“I therefore wish to strongly advise you to be very hard working and responsible: I advise you to eschew vices and all forms of corruption. While a large number of senior management staff in the Lagos State Public Service may struggle to keep pace with today’s emerging technologies, the story of your generation is very different,” she said.

The HoS said she was convinced that the new recruits were technology-compliant, urging them to take advantage of Information and Communication Technology to develop themselves “because technology will rule tomorrow’s workplace. Only your knowledge and skills will ensure that you continue to be relevant.”

Director-General, PSSDC, Olufunmi Ajose-Harrison, said to continually promote excellence at the councils, the newly employed officers required adequate capacity building training.

The Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Babatunde Rotinwa, urged the new workers to be team players as such would take them far in the civil service.
