The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Monday inaugurated 21 roads and two bridges in the Alimosho Local Government Area, with a pledge to open up communities in the state.

The roads, totalling 27.4 kilometres, which connect Lagos with Ogun State from the Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area, were fitted with walkways, drainage channels, lane markings and streetlights, among others.

Ambode said the delivery of the infrastructure was part of the vision to transform the Alimosho constituency and build new economy in the area.

He said, “We are making the Alimosho area economically viable and liveable. We don’t need to travel anywhere to earn a living. By opening up the road network totalling 27.4km, we have brought economy back to this place.

“Without necessarily going to the main street, you can travel to Ojo or Badagry; this is part of the promises that we made and we are keeping them.”

Ambode lauded a national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for activating the transformation of Alimosho when he was the governor of the state with the construction of the LASU-Iba Road.

He also commended former Governor Babatunde Fashola for taking up the project to Ipaja.

He said, “Now, we have taken it from Ipaja to Ayobo, Command Secondary School gate, Abesan, Aboru Bridge and roads. What we are doing today is momentous as we are connecting over 60 communities together.

“We don’t need to congest ourselves on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. Now, you can take these alternative routes and go all the way to Ipaja and Badagry without having anything to do with the expressway.”

Ambode said the government used taxes paid by Lagosians to fund the projects, adding that taxpayers had always made it possible to improve on the economy and solve traffic challenges.

“The idea of the projects is to open up all our sub-urban communities, reduce traffic congestion and create a better living for the people,” Ambode said.

He also said a modern bus terminal and Bus Rapid Transit corridor would soon be constructed in the neighbourhood.

Ambode urged residents of the state to register and collect their Permanent Voter Cards to be able to exercise their franchise in the 2019 general elections.

Speaking during the inauguration of Aiyetoro Bridge, the Senator representing Lagos West District in the Senate, Olamilekan Adeola, noted that many residents who had left the community, had started returning due to infrastructural renewal by the Ambode-led administration.

The roads opened are Ikola Road with a bridge, Aiyetoro Road with a bridge, Raypower Road, Amikanle Road, Oko Filling Road, Ogunseye Road, Osenatu Ilo Road, Aina Aladi Road, Oluwasanya Road, Igbehinadun Road and Community Road.

Others are Isoto Road, Palace Road, Timothy Afolabi Road, Peak Thomas Bright Crescent, Baale Street, Joe Ikebudu Road, Bishop Oderinde Road, Alhaji Ganiyu Salami Road, Kadiri Adebambo Street and Church Street.
