- Taxify Empowers Women to Set up SMEs
International ride-hailing company, Taxify, has kicked off an initiative to empower more Nigerian women to begin Small and Medium-scale Enterprises.
The company’s Brand Manager in Nigeria, Terver Bendega, told correspondent on Tuesday that the decision was borne out of the need to create a more conducive environment for driven women to own and scale their businesses.
She explained, “Another reason it was important for us to create this initiative to empower more women is that our ecosystem revolves around women. We are especially proud of our female driver-partners who everyday are responsible for helping hundreds of people move.
“Also, women make up the large majority of our riders and for them, Taxify is not just an app, it’s reliable on demand transportation and a sense of independence.”
Speaking at ‘The Backyard Lagos’ event last Sunday in celebration of the International Women’s Day, Bendega said that the company decided to take the month of March to pay tribute to all the women across Nigeria who had shown extraordinary drive.
“There is no harder working woman as the Nigerian woman. In celebration of the International Women’s Day, we asked Nigerians to nominate inspiring women who have shown drive in various fields for a chance to win a kick-starter package. Within this package is N100,000 cash, N50,000 in Taxify credit and access to a network of women across various fields,” she stated.
According to her, the plan is that by the end of the second quarter of 2018, Taxify will continue to drive this initiative to not only give these women the resources they need to kick-start their businesses, “but also provide them access to a network of accomplished women who are able to help them move these businesses to the next level.”
Taxify has created work opportunities for hundreds of women since launching in Nigeria and is looking into creating thousands more in the next few years.
“With Taxify, women can drive whenever they can or whenever they want. Driver-partners can set their own schedules, while maintaining a steady independent source of income,” the company’s brand manager added.
