The World Customs Organisation has recognised and rewarded the Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service for its efforts in the anti-smuggling campaign.
The command stated this in a statement on Wednesday issued by its Public Relations Officer, Uche Ejesieme, adding that it got the award at this year’s International Customs Day held under the theme ‘Securing Business Environment for Economic Development’.
It quoted the Comptroller General, NCS, Col. Hameed Ali (retd.) who represented the WCO Secretary General, Kunio Mikuriya, as saying that the International Customs Day, which was celebrated by Customs administrations all over the world, provided an opportunity to evaluate the role of Customs in nation building as a revenue generating agency.
He said that the theme of this year’s event was apt considering the state of insecurity and challenges in Nigeria and the world at large.
The Controller, Tin Can Island Port command, Bashar Yusuf, was quoted as saying that the award was an indication that the CGC and the entire management of the NCS had confidence in the command.
Yusuf stated that part of his strategy for success at the command was the concept of team spirit and policy of inclusiveness.
“I also have a team comprising all the egg heads, the entire officers/men, whose invaluable contribution cannot be quantified. We are very passionate about collaboration and synergy with critical agencies and we have imbibed the virtues of transparent, integrity and due diligence in our day-to-day dealing in line with global best practices,” he said.
