An aircraft owned by Nestoil thursday skidded off the runway and forced the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to shut down flight operations for 30 minutes at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The incident occurred when the aircraft landed at the airport.

FAAN explained that the aircraft lost its landing gear but the pilot was able to manage the aircraft to avert more grievous outcome, as the airplane, which could not taxied, was pulled off the runway.

In a statement signed by the Head of Corporate Affairs, FAAN, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu, said concerted efforts were made to put the situation under control and normalcy was restored.

The agency said the closure of the airport at that point was to enable the authority take safety precautions.
