- Imported Products Must Meet Acceptable Standards — Ogun SON
The Coordinator of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, Ogun State, Sagamu Office, Achema Alewu, has maintained that the quality assurance agency will in the New Year spare no efforts to ensure both imported and locally produced goods conform to the requirements of the Nigerian industrial standards.
Alewu, therefore, warned all the criminal elements behind the production and importation of substandard products into the country to either turn a new leaf or have the full wrath of the law to contend with.
The coordinator said this in a chat with our correspondent in Ogun State.
He added that as part of efforts to intensify the fight against fake and substandard products in the country, the agency would on February 1 introduce new stickers of quality called Product Authentication Mark, to ensure authenticity and traceability of products.
According to him, any product without the new sticker of quality from March 31, 2018 will not be allowed into the Nigerian markets.
He added that the agency led by its Director-General, Osita Aboloma, was committed to the successful introduction of the new stickers.
As such, the Ogun SON boss said the agency was already holding series of meeting with manufacturers and other stakeholders for acceptability, in a bid to protect genuine manufacturers and importers from product adulteration.
Achema explained, “We are poised in the new year to smoke out criminals importing or manufacturing substandard products. They have nowhere to hide and they should be aware that once they are caught, they will be prosecuted and sent to jail, so it is better they change and find a patriotic means of living before it is too late”.
