- We’ll Reposition Arik to Become a Trailblazer – AMCON
The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria has said it will reposition Arik Air to become a trailblazer in the country’s aviation industry.
The Managing Director, AMCON, Ahmed Kuru, stated this while reacting to Aero Contractors’ recent completion of a C-check on a Boeing 737-500 aircraft.
The corporation took over the management of Aero Contractors in 2016 after it dissolved the board of the airline and did the same for Arik last year following a debt burden that threatened to ground the carrier.
Kuru said, “We can see what Aero has been able to achieve and we will also push Arik to become a trailblazer in Nigeria’s aviation industry.
“As a recovery agency of the Federal Government, it was not for us an option to stand aloof and watch, while airlines with rich history are grounded as a result of challenges in management and governance, plus accumulated debt obligations.”
He stated that aviation was not just a critical sector, but also a strategic and core component of any economy that wished to compete on the global scene.
“Intervening in Aero and any other airline in the country was for us a national assignment geared towards both our resolution objective and the need to help in rebuilding the Nigerian economy,” he added.
