The Nigeria Internet Group has elected the Chief Executive Officer, IceCool Contracts Limited, Mr. Destiny Amana, as its president for the next two years.

A statement by the group on Wednesday said Dr. Bayero Agabi was also elected as the new vice president; Mrs. Nkem Uwaje-Begho, treasurer; and Hilary Damissah as the publicity secretary.

The election, according to the statement, was handled by the representative of the Board of Trustees’ Chairman, Chief Olawale Ige; a former Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University , Prof. Adeniyi Osuntokun; a former NIG President, Lanre Ajayi; with President Emeritus Ms. Oyeronke Oyetunde in attendance.

It stated, “The NIG founded in 1995, is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organisation promoting the Internet in Nigeria. To achieve its mandate, the group engages in a number of activities which include policy advocacy, awareness creation and education through conferences, seminars, exhibitions, training and active engagement of the government during and after policy formulation processes.”

“The vision of the NIG is to leapfrog Nigeria into a pervasive Internet- employing nation in order to harness its power as a vehicle for development.
