- Tax debt: LASACO Denies Owing FIRS
LASACO Assurance Plc has denied owing the Federal Inland Revenue Service outstanding tax liabilities.
The FIRS had on Monday shut the headquarters of the insurance firm on Acme Road, Ogba, Lagos.
The company said the FIRS officials reopened its office on Monday evening, after it had presented necessary documents showing it had no outstanding tax obligations.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, LASACO, Mr. Segun Balogun, said it was imperative to put the record straight regarding the error of judgment on the part of the FIRS.
He stated, “What happened was that the FIRS officials stormed our office on Monday morning and forcefully sealed our corporate head office on a wrong claim that we owed tax.
“The said officials came without prior notice and sealed the office with a claim that we owed tax liability from 2012 to 2016 to the tune of N278.5m. And all our attempts to make them see reason that we were not owing proved abortive even as we showed them evidences of full payments for the reconciled 2012-2015 taxes and payments on self-assessment basis for 2016.
“We will like to state for the understanding of the public that LASACO Assurance Plc is not owing any tax liability. We have always been upright in discharging our tax responsibilities as can be seen from the evidences of payment.”
