Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun has presented a budget of N345.42 billion to the State House of Assembly, with the assurance that it would be implemented in furtherance of his administration’s rebuilding mission.

The Budget of Accelerated Development has N223.72 billion as capital expenditure, representing 64.77 per cent, while N121.698 billion or 35.23 per cent is for earmarked for recurrent expenditure.

Presenting the budget, Amosun said it was 57 per cent higher than the 2017 budget, adding that the emphasis on capital projects in 2018 was due to the fact that the administration was building a greater momentum into the end of the tenure.

Details of the document showed that Affordable Qualitative Education got N79.25 billion or 22.9 per cent; Efficient Healthcare Delivery, N21.20 billion or 6.13 per cent; Agricultural Production that will lead to Massive Industrialisation, N21.14 billion or 6.12 per cent).

Others are Affordable Housing and Urban Renewal, N45.73 billion or 13.24 per cent, Rural and Infrastructural Development and Employment Generation, N73.61 billion or 21.31 per cent, while N125.93 billion or 30.25 per cent was allocated for other sectors.

“We have placed great emphasis on capital projects to accelerate the development of our state. We must continue to develop infrastructure that supports industry, improve road connectivity in our agricultural areas, as well as between our agricultural belts and urban markets. “In addition, investing in skills, especially for youths and farmers that help to support inclusive growth,” he said.

Speaker of the House, Suraju Adekunbi, affirmed that the fund appropriated for 2017 was judiciously used for the projects they were meant for.He said the Legislature was able to confirm this through the oversight function of members to government ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).
