- NigComSat, Belarus Sign Satellite Backup Deal
The Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited has announced the signing of a strategic backup agreement with the operators of Belintersat-1, a communication satellite of the People’s Republic of Belarus.
A statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by the Head, Public Affairs Department, at NigComSat, Mr. Adamu Idris, said the mutual backup services agreement was signed in Minsk, Belarus.
The MoU was signed on behalf of NigComSat Limited by its Managing Director, Abimbola Alale, while the Chief Operating Officer of Belintersat signed on behalf of Belarus. The ceremony was witnessed by officials of the China Great Wall Industries Corporation, builders of the two communications satellites.
The signing of the agreement offers NigComSat a satellite that it can migrate its customers to in case there is any eventuality with its own satellite, the NigComSat-1R.
The strategic partnership is aimed at repositioning NigComSat Limited for commercial viability as some satellite service consumers are wary of patronising operators with only one satellite.
Alale said with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, NigComSat Limited was set to push its services further as she reassured customers of reliability and sustainability.
Alale added that the firm occupied a strategic position in the nation’s economic and security architecture that must be given the highest priority in the scheme of things.
The Executive Director, Marketing and Business Development, NigComSat Limited, Mr. Samson Osagie, also expressed delight at the partnership with the Belarusian firm, adding that NigComSat customers would no longer have reasons to worry about the absence of a backup for NigComSat-1R.
Osagie enjoined corporate bodies and other stakeholders in the industry to have confidence in NigComSat’s ability to render seamless services to its clients.
