- Qatar Airways Passengers Protest Delayed Flight at Lagos Airport
Some passengers of Qatar Airways on Tuesday caused a scene at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, over the delay of their flights for two days.
Eyewitnesses said the passengers had besieged the airline’s check-in counter demanding to be put on any available flight to enable them meet up with their engagements outside the country.
The passengers were said to have boarded the Doha-bound flight on Sunday at 10am, with the hope to connect to their respective destinations, only to be asked to disembark for operational reasons.
One of the passengers said they were taken to a hotel later on Sunday, but that when they were brought back to the airport early Monday morning for boarding, they found out that no proper arrangement was made for them.
The spokesperson for the Lagos Airport Police Command, Mr. Joseph Alabi, who confirmed the development, however, said the issue had been resolved.
According to him, the passengers have since left the country after expressing their grievances at the airline’s counter.
“When I arrived at the airport, I saw things moving smoothly at the check-in counter and I was informed that arrangement had been made to convey them to their destinations,” Alabi stated.
A source at the airline stated that the passengers were agitated because they were in a hotel for two days and their flight was delayed.
“They need to get to their destinations and so when they came in here, it was a crowd, but we have sorted out the issue and put some of them on a flight. The few of them who are remaining will be taken to other airlines,” he said.
