- LASG Commences Rehabilitation of Highways
The Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of the rehabilitation of defective roads in the state through the Public Works Corporation.
A statement by the Head, Public Affairs Unit, Lagos State Public Works Corporation, Mr. Yomi Oladapo, quoted the Special Adviser on Public Works and Drainages to the Governor, Mr. Temidayo Erinle, as saying that the government had a very long list of roads to attend to and in the last few weeks, the LSPWC had started to fix all potholes on the major highways in the state.
“We have begun to fix all the potholes in the Lagos metropolis and since the weather is a bit friendly, we decided to concentrate more on the major highways so that vehicular traffic will be eased off. Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has directed that Lagos roads must be rid of potholes and this mandate we are carrying out holistically,” he said.
Erinle explained that in the last two weeks, the corporation had begun the milling and relaying of asphalt premix on the Ojota-Ketu interchange, while paving stones were laid on sections of roads liable to flooding along the Ketu interchange to Ojota, adding that the drainage canal at Adebimpe Street, Ketu had also been cleared to address the problem of flooding in that area.
He added that the corporation had almost completed the laying of paving stones on Water Corporation Road (Trinity Avenue), Off Ligali Ayorinde, Victoria Island in Eti-Osa Local Government; while palliative work had also been carried out on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway (Agbara inward Aradagun) in Ojo Local Government.
“The corporation will not leave any stone unturned to ensure that the governor’s directive is carried out to achieve a pothole-free Lagos. Other roads that we are presently working on include Hakeem Balogun road in Ikeja; Akowonjo road in Alimosho; Adekunle Banjo in Magodo Phase II,; Sina Ogunbanwo in Ifako-Ijaiye; Ipaja Road, Alagba, Agege; Obafemi Awolowo Way in Ikeja; Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway (Abule Egba inward Alakuko); Ikorodu Road; Iju Road, Ifako-Ijaye; Cole street in Surulere; Lagos-Badagry Expressway (Agbara to Igbo-Elerin); Oba Akran in Ikeja; and Osborne and Alfred Rewane roads in Ikoyi to mention a few,” he said.
