The Federal Government on Thursday inaugurated an 11-man committee to address the regulatory issues raised by the Airlines Operators of Nigeria.

The Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, inaugurated the committee in Abuja.

He said the committee headed by him, with membership from aviation agencies, had three mandates.

According to him, the committee is set up to address the payment of multiple charges by operators, state of infrastructure at the airports and also look into negotiations of Bilateral Air Service Agreements.

The minister stated that when the current administration came into office, it met so many issues that needed to be addressed.

He said while some had been addressed, others needed to be looked at holistically

Sirika stated, “Since we assume office, there have been lots of complaints against quite a number of issues that have been in the industry before we came; we did the best that we can to solve some of them, which indeed we solved many.

“It is my understanding that some of these issues have been tabled before the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, then as Acting President, and he directed that a committee be set up under my chairmanship to look into these issues.

“And this is not the first time, this type of committee has been set up some years ago for a similar purpose and report has been produced.

“What we are doing today is to inaugurate the task force committee to follow the instructions of his Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.”

He added that with the mandate given to the members, they were expected to bring forward ideas that could help address the challenges.

The minister urged members of the committee to take the assignment seriously.
