  • Kenya Opposition to Challenge Ballot-Tender Award

Kenya’s main opposition group will go to court to challenge the award of a ballot-paper printing contract, the Standard reported, citing Kibisu Kabatesi, a spokesman for the National Super Alliance.

The alliance wants to prevent the tender from being awarded to Dubai-based Al Ghurair Printing & Publishing Ltd., the Nairobi-based newspaper cited Kabatesi as saying. Kathleen Openda, spokeswoman for the NASA campaign secretariat, couldn’t immediately confirm the court date when contacted by Bloomberg.

Kenya’s Independent Electoral & Boundaries Commission last week awarded the contract to Al Ghurair, even after two previous attempts to hand the deal to the company were blocked by a High Court ruling and a review by a government procurement oversight body.

The commission said on Friday that any further challenges to the tender award may result in Kenya’s presidential elections, scheduled for Aug. 8, being delayed.
