The Ogun State Government has begun the construction of a six-lane road of 12 kilometres in lengthand a 600-metre bridge in Atan/Agbara, Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area, as part of measures to put an end to the suffering being experienced by motorists and other road users due to the bad state of the road.

The construction, according to a statement by the Head of Media in the Ministry of Works And Infrastructure Mr. Ayokunle Ewuoso, who quoted the commissioner in charge of the ministry, Mr. Olamilekan Adegbite, will be completed before the expiration of the tenure of the present administration in 2019.

Speaking with journalists in his office after the demolition of some structuresto give way for the construction of the bridge, the commissioner said the contractor handling the project had been mobilised with substantial amount of money for him to start the work and meet the delivery period.

Adegbite stated, “The contractor has been mandated to start work at two locations; he is going to start the road from Atan and there is a great separator at Lusada; and the contractor will start the bridge at the same time at Lusada junction.

“We have given it careful planning; the contractor has been mobilised with substantial amount of money, so I think all things being equal, we should complete it before the expiration of the second term of Governor Ibikunle Amosun.”

Reacting to the point that the road in question was a federal road, the commissioner gave an assurance that the state government would continue to lay emphasis and priority on the comfort of the people irrespective of where they were from, adding that as far as the government was concerned, there were no federal people when it comes to the issue of road construction.

The commissioner pointed out that most of roads classified as federal roads had become township roads, so there was no point referring to them as such anymore, adding that the Ogun State Government was in consultation with the federal Ministry of Works on the need to release the roads to it.
